Apple announced its first foldable on 9 September: The iPhone Duo, the foldable Apple unveiled on 9 September, named for its two screens after years of leaks calling it iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. It is a book-style foldable in grade 5 titanium with a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner display protected by a replaceable nano-texture cover layer and a 5.4-inch outer display, Touch ID built into the side button, IP68 dust and water resistance, spatial audio and Split View multitasking, with Apple Pencil support arriving later this year. In Malaysia, pre-orders open at 8pm Malaysian time on Friday 16 October and it goes on sale on Friday 23 October.

Why are folding phones harder to protect?
Two reasons stand out. First, the hinge is the busiest mechanical part on the phone, and dust or sand in a pocket can work its way in over time. Second, folding screens carry a soft inner display and often a faint crease down the middle that you never want to press hard.
On top of that, a foldable is two thin panels instead of one solid slab, so the edges and corners are more exposed when the phone is open. A little coverage goes a long way here.

Fold, Ultra or Duo: which name is right?
Apple settled it on 9 September: the retail name is iPhone Duo, after its two screens. Leakers had called it iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra, and we keep those names here so you find this guide whichever one you searched.
Whatever you call it, the case advice is the same: protect the hinge, both screens and the edges.
What should you look for in a foldable case?
A good iPhone Duo case is a little different from a normal one. It protects each half while leaving the titanium hinge free to open and close, and it must not add so much bulk that the phone will not shut flat.
The Duo also has two details a regular iPhone does not: Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID, and an 11.3 mm folded thickness. Specs from Apple Malaysia.
- Slim protection on both halves, so it still folds shut and opens flat
- An open cut-out over the side button, so Touch ID can read your finger
- A MagSafe ring if you use magnetic chargers, grips or wallets (the Duo charges at up to 25W on MagSafe and Qi2)
- Raised lips around the outer screen and the cameras
- Light enough that a 254 g phone stays easy to pocket

Does the iPhone Duo need a case?
Yes. Apple built the iPhone Duo with a grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover, Ceramic Shield front and back and IP68 water resistance, but a foldable still has two screens, a hinge and more exposed edges than a regular iPhone. A slim case made for the Duo guards the corners and keeps pocket grit away from the hinge.

Will a normal iPhone case fit the iPhone Duo?
No. A regular iPhone case is one solid shape, while the Duo is two halves joined by a hinge: closed, it measures 84.1 x 117.8 x 11.3 mm, a completely different size. Only a case made for the iPhone Duo will fit.
Does the iPhone Duo have Face ID?
No. It unlocks with Touch ID, built into the side button. Choose a case with an open cut-out over that button so your finger reaches the sensor.
Does the iPhone Duo work with MagSafe?
Yes. Apple lists MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging at up to 25W. A case with a built-in MagSafe ring keeps magnetic chargers, grips and wallets attached.
What is the crease on a folding phone?
The crease is the line down the middle of the inner screen where it folds. Apple says the iPhone Duo’s display layers glide as it folds to minimise stress and crease, but it is still the part you do not want to press hard or trap grit against, one more reason a well-fitted case helps.
