Why are folding phones harder to protect?
Two reasons stand out. First, the hinge is the busiest mechanical part on the phone, and dust or sand in a pocket can work its way in over time. Second, folding screens carry a soft inner display and often a faint crease down the middle that you never want to press hard.
On top of that, a foldable is two thin panels instead of one solid slab, so the edges and corners are more exposed when the phone is open. A little coverage goes a long way here.
