Quick answer

A camera lens protector is a small piece of tempered glass or sapphire that sits over your iPhone’s rear camera lenses, the part of the phone that touches the table first every time you put it down. You need one if you set the phone down face up, carry it loose in a bag, or plan to sell it later. GALADO makes four: the RM39 Camera Lens Protector (iPhone 13 to iPhone 17 and iPhone Air), the RM65 Clarity Invisible Lens Protector (iPhone 14 to iPhone 18 Pro Max), the RM65 G-Armor sapphire protector (iPhone 13 Pro to 17 Pro Max), and the RM35 Camera Plateau Protector for the iPhone 17 Pro and 18 Pro. All ship free from Penang. Last updated 29 September 2026.

Do you really need a camera lens protector?

The rear camera is the most exposed glass on an iPhone. It stands proud of the back, so it takes the contact when the phone lands on a table, and it is the one surface a case leaves open on purpose. Screen protectors are common; camera protection is the part most people skip until the first scratch shows up as a soft blur in every photo.

You need one if any of these is true: you put the phone down face up, you carry it in a bag with keys or coins, you use a slim case with a low camera lip, or you intend to sell the phone. A scratched lens is the fault a used-phone buyer in Malaysia spots immediately, because it shows in the sample photos.

You can skip it if you use a rugged case with a tall camera surround and the phone never leaves it. Our best phone cases guide shows which GALADO cases have the raised camera edge.

Does a lens protector affect photo quality?

A good one does not, in daylight. The glass is optically clear and thinner than the lens sapphire it protects. The two places a cheap protector shows itself are night photos, where a poorly coated glass adds flare and ghosting around bright lights, and macro shots, where a thick ring can throw a shadow.

This is why GALADO’s Clarity Invisible and G-Armor protectors use anti-reflective coatings and sit flat to the lens rather than standing off it. If you shoot a lot at night, buy one of those two rather than the basic ring, and clean it with the cloth before a night out; most “the protector ruined my photo” complaints are a fingerprint.

Lens rings, invisible covers or a plateau protector: which type is right?

There are three shapes, and the right one depends on how you want the phone to look as much as on protection.

Individual lens rings cover each lens with its own metal-framed glass. They protect the lens surface itself and look like a visible upgrade on the camera. The Camera Lens Protector at RM39 is this type, with a one-piece frame so all the rings go on straight in one go.

Invisible covers are clear glass with no frame, cut to disappear on the camera. The Clarity Invisible Lens Protector at RM65 is the clearest option and the one to pick if you do not want the phone to look modified. The G-Armor at RM65 is the same idea in sapphire, tinted to match the original iPhone lens colour, for the Pro models from iPhone 13 Pro to iPhone 17 Pro Max.

A plateau protector covers the flat raised camera block around the lenses, the surface that scratches most easily because it is the part that actually touches the table. The Camera Plateau Protector at RM35 is for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro designs, and it pairs with a lens ring or invisible cover rather than replacing one.

Which lens protector fits which iPhone?

Fit is per model, because the lens layout changes almost every year. Use the table below, then pick the exact model on the product page. The iPhone 18 Pro is the one to be careful with: its camera plateau is reported to stand taller than the iPhone 17 Pro’s, so only the products that list it by name should be trusted to fit. Our iPhone 18 Pro camera lens protector guide tracks that as the phone launches, and the iPhone 18 Pro dimensions guide covers the measurements behind it.

How do you fit a lens protector straight?

Crooked lens rings are the number one complaint with any brand, and the fix is the applicator. The Camera Lens Protector and the G-Armor both come with an alignment frame or applicator that sits over the camera bump and drops the glass in the right place; use it rather than eyeballing it.

The order matters: clean the lenses with the wet wipe, dry with the cloth, lift any dust with the sticker, then place the protector with the applicator and press the centre of each lens for ten seconds. Do it before you put the case on, because the case edge can get in the way of the frame.

If one ring lands off-centre, lift it straight away with the sticker and re-lay it. Once pressed and left for a few hours the adhesive sets and a second attempt is much harder.

  • Clean: wet wipe, dry cloth, dust sticker, in that order
  • Align: seat the applicator frame over the camera block before the glass touches anything
  • Place: lower the protector through the frame and press each lens for ten seconds
  • Check: look for a uniform edge gap around every lens before removing the frame
  • Case last: fit the case after the protector, not before

When should you replace a camera lens protector?

Replace it when it cracks, chips at the edge, or starts lifting at a corner. A cracked protector still protects the lens but it will show as a streak in photos, so it stops earning its keep the day it breaks. Replacing one is a two-minute job with the kit in the box.

If you change cases often, check the corners of the protector each time; a case pressed on and off over a lifted edge is what usually finishes it.

Protect the screen too

Camera protection covers the back. The front is the bigger, more expensive piece of glass, and it is the one that breaks in a face-down drop. Our tempered glass screen protector guide explains HD clear versus privacy glass and how to fit it without bubbles. Buying both at once makes sense: one clean, one session, whole phone covered.

Questions, answered

Do camera lens protectors reduce photo quality?

A clear, flat, coated protector does not affect daytime photos. Cheap thick rings can add flare in night shots and shadow in macro. If you shoot at night often, choose the Clarity Invisible or G-Armor, which use anti-reflective glass or sapphire and sit flat, and keep the glass clean; a fingerprint on the protector is the usual cause of a hazy photo.

Is a lens protector necessary if I use a case?

It depends on the case. A rugged case with a tall raised camera edge keeps the lenses off the table and a protector adds little. A slim or clear case with a low lip leaves the lenses exposed, and that is where a RM39 protector saves a lens that costs far more to replace.

Which lens protector fits the iPhone 18 Pro?

Only products that list the iPhone 18 Pro by name: the Clarity Invisible Lens Protector and the Camera Plateau Protector both do. The iPhone 18 Pro’s camera plateau is reported to be taller than the 17 Pro’s, so protectors made for the 17 Pro should not be assumed to fit. Our iPhone 18 Pro camera guide tracks the confirmed fit.

What is the difference between a lens protector and a plateau protector?

A lens protector covers the glass of each camera lens. A plateau protector covers the flat raised block the lenses sit in, which is the surface that touches the table and scratches first. On the iPhone 17 Pro and 18 Pro you can use both together: plateau protector underneath, lens rings or an invisible cover on the lenses.

Can I remove and reuse a camera lens protector?

Remove yes, reuse usually no. The adhesive sets after a few hours and lifting it later tends to leave the ring bent or the glass cracked. If you need to reposition it, do it within the first minute using the lift sticker. To move it to a new phone, buy a new one; the models differ anyway.

How much is a camera lens protector in Malaysia?

GALADO’s start at RM39 for the framed Camera Lens Protector, RM35 for the Camera Plateau Protector, and RM65 for the Clarity Invisible and the sapphire G-Armor. All ship free within Malaysia from Penang with a 6-month warranty and 10-day no-questions-asked returns.
