Best Tempered Glass Screen Protector in Malaysia: HD Clear vs Privacy, Explained
Which tempered glass screen protector to buy in Malaysia: HD clear vs privacy, what 9H means, fitting it with a case, and how to apply without bubbles. Ships from Penang.
Available nowA tempered glass screen protector is a thin sheet of hardened glass that takes the scratch or the crack instead of your phone screen. In Malaysia the choice comes down to two types: HD clear glass, which keeps the screen looking exactly as Apple made it, and privacy glass, which blacks out the screen to anyone looking from the side. GALADO’s CLEAR High Defense glass is RM65 and the PRIVACY version is RM79, both 9H hardness, both cut for models from the iPhone 11 up to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and both ship free from Penang. Do you actually need a tempered glass screen protector?
Yes, if you would rather replace a RM65 sheet of glass than a phone screen. Apple’s Ceramic Shield glass is tough against drops but it still scratches, and the scratches come from the boring things: keys in the same pocket, sand at the beach, a coin at the bottom of a bag. A tempered glass protector takes those hits on a surface you can peel off and replace.

The second reason is resale. A Malaysian buyer paying for a used iPhone looks at the screen first. A phone that lived under a protector for two years sells like a phone that was babied, because it was.
The third reason only applies to privacy glass: if you read messages on the LRT, in a Grab, or across a meeting table, a privacy protector makes the screen unreadable to anyone not looking at it straight on.

HD clear or privacy tempered glass: which should you pick?
Pick HD clear if you want the screen to look untouched. It adds nothing you can see: colours, brightness and Face ID work exactly as before, and it is the right choice for anyone who watches video or edits photos on the phone.
Pick privacy if the content on your screen matters more than the brightness of it. Privacy glass uses a micro-louvre layer, like a set of tiny blinds, so the screen reads normally straight on and goes dark from the sides. The trade is a slightly dimmer screen at full brightness and a narrower viewing angle, which is exactly the point.
If you are buying for someone else and do not know their habits, buy HD clear. Nobody has ever complained that their screen was too clear.
What does 9H hardness mean on tempered glass?
9H is a pencil-hardness rating: the glass resists scratching from a 9H pencil, the hardest grade in the test. In practice it means keys, coins and fingernails will not mark it. It does not mean the glass is unbreakable; tempered glass is designed to crack under a hard impact so that your screen underneath does not.
That is the honest way to think about a protector. It is a sacrificial layer. When it cracks, it has done its job, and a new one costs a fraction of a screen repair at an Apple service centre in Malaysia.
Will tempered glass fit with a phone case?
This is the question that causes most returns, so it is worth understanding. Modern iPhone screens curve very slightly at the edge. A protector that runs all the way to that curve will meet the lip of a snug case, and the case can lift the protector’s edge over time.
Two rules keep you out of trouble. First, buy the protector cut for your exact model, not a “universal” sheet trimmed to size. Second, if you use a case with a tall raised lip, choose a protector that stops just short of the curve rather than one that claims edge-to-edge coverage. GALADO’s glass and cases are designed around the same iPhone measurements and used together every day, so if you buy both from us and the fit is off, our returns policy covers it.
Our guide to the best phone cases in Malaysia covers which case styles have a raised lip and which sit flush.
How do you apply tempered glass without bubbles or dust?
Almost every bubble is a speck of dust trapped under the glass, and almost every speck of dust comes from applying it in the wrong room. Do it in the bathroom after a hot shower, when the steam has settled the dust in the air, and follow the order below.
If a small bubble does appear at the edge, press it towards the nearest edge with a card wrapped in the cleaning cloth. If it is in the middle and will not move, there is dust under it: lift the glass with the included sticker, dab the underside with the dust sticker, and lay it down again. Tempered glass can usually be lifted and re-laid once without losing its adhesive.
- Wipe the screen with the wet wipe, then the dry cloth, then the dust-removal sticker
- Peel the backing film from the glass without touching the sticky side
- Line up the earpiece cut-out and the edges, then lower the glass from one end
- Let the adhesive spread on its own for a few seconds before pressing
- Press from the centre outwards with the cloth to push any air to the edges
Do you need camera protection as well as screen protection?
On recent iPhones the rear camera glass sticks out further than the screen, so it hits the table first every time you set the phone down. A screen protector does nothing for it. If you want the whole phone covered, pair the screen glass with a lens protector; our camera lens protector guide explains the difference between individual lens rings and full plateau covers.
For iPhone 18 Pro owners specifically, the new camera plateau changes what fits. Our iPhone 18 Pro screen and camera protection guide tracks that as the phone launches.
Which iPhone models does GALADO tempered glass fit?
Both the CLEAR High Defense and PRIVACY High Defense glass are cut per model, from the iPhone 11 series through the iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air, and both already list the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Select your model on the product page and the correct cut ships.

Questions, answered
Is tempered glass better than a plastic screen protector?
For scratch resistance and feel, yes. Tempered glass is 9H hard, so keys and coins do not mark it, and it feels like the original screen under your finger. Plastic film is thinner and cheaper but scratches easily and can feel grippy. The one place plastic wins is on a heavily curved screen, which is not an issue on current iPhones.
Does privacy tempered glass make the screen darker?
Slightly, and mostly at an angle. Straight on, at normal brightness, most people forget it is there. The dimming is the micro-louvre layer doing its job of blocking side views. If you often use the phone lying down at an angle, or share the screen with someone beside you, HD clear is the better choice.
Will a tempered glass protector affect Face ID or touch?
No. Both GALADO protectors have the earpiece and sensor cut-out in the right place for each model, and the glass is thin enough that touch sensitivity is unchanged. If touch ever feels off after fitting, it is almost always a bubble or dust under the glass rather than the glass itself.
How long does a tempered glass screen protector last?
Until it cracks. With normal use that is usually a year or more; a hard corner drop can end it on day one, which is the protector doing exactly what you bought it for. Replace it when it cracks or when the edges start to lift, and keep the phone screen underneath pristine.
Can I put tempered glass on an iPhone 18 Pro?
Yes. Both the CLEAR and PRIVACY High Defense glass already list the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max as model options. For the rear camera, which changes shape on the iPhone 18 Pro, see our iPhone 18 Pro protection guide before choosing a lens protector.
How much is a tempered glass screen protector in Malaysia?
GALADO’s CLEAR High Defense tempered glass is RM65 and the PRIVACY version is RM79, both with free shipping from Penang, a 6-month warranty and 10-day returns. Cheaper unbranded sheets exist, but they are usually cut universally rather than per model, which is where fit and bubble problems start.
